The United States Army uses motor vehicles to get everything from troops to equipment from one location to another. It is important not only that the proper cargo is loaded onto the right trucks. It is important that they are loaded on correctly. This involves shipping schedules and making sure the vehicles are where they are supposed to be when they are supposed to be there. This is the job of the Motor Transport Operator.
Driving the Truck
While you will be asked to drive many different kinds of motor vehicles, the most important vehicles you will be driving include the heavy transport vehicles. These are the flat beds and the other kinds of semi-trucks which will be used to move people and things across battle zones. You will also be asked to oversee the loading and unloading of the truck in order to make sure that the loads will not cause any damage to the motor vehicle.
When you are working as a Motor transport operator, you will be trained with specialized skills in order to make sure that you will understand what your position entails. You will be taught everything you need to operate the vehicle properly as well as to make simple repairs if needed.
