Army Enlistment Is A ‘Testing’ Time
One BIG reason why the US Army is the world’s largest, most technologically advanced and powerful fighting machines … is the quality of its officers and soldiers. This is why the US Army, like all other major branches of the military, has such stringent tests in place. These tests help the Army to weed out those found unsuitable, and to retain ONLY the finest of the finest men and women for enlistment and training.
One such test is the ASVAB test, or Armed Services Vocational Training Battery test. The very first place where you’ll undergo your CAT-ASVAB (aptitude & physical) tests AND select your MOS, or Military Occupation Specialty, is at a Military Entrance Processing Station, or MEPS.
You must know that the ASVAB is no ordinary test. It is a comprehensive test which will tell the Army whether or not you have the potential to make a good soldier and officer, and to survive the rigors of Army life.
Past Medical History
This consists of a detailed form that you must fill in accurately and truthfully, providing details of your past medical history. If you do have a health issue, say it. The US Army will not take kindly to information found misleading, or omitted with fraudulent intention. This could result in disqualification. If you need assistance, try asking your recruiter to be with you at this stage, or you mat request any medical technician on hand to help you.
The Physical Test
Perhaps this is one of the most comprehensive medical you will have undergone, until now. The physical test is of critical importance, as the Army expects candidates to be able to withstand the challenges of military service, and more importantly, tough Basic Training. Here are the tests you can expect:
- Cardio test
- Eye test (including color blindness test)
- Hearing test
- Blood Test
- Urine Test
- Alcohol and Drugs tests
- Muscle and Joints test
- Further in-depth tests if needed
