The Army provides its members with a surprising number of benefits, including free career training and college tuition, full medical, dental and vision benefits, access to discounted military shopping, free world travel, free gym membership, low rate home loans, resume writing and transition workshops, access to auto shops, wood shops and home maintenance tools and equipment and, yes, they will even pay for your rent and groceries.
Basic Allowance For Housing (BAH)
The Army will provide you with free or subsidized housing, based upon the location of your duty station, your rank and pay grade, and whether or not you have dependents. There are adjustments that take into account situations in which Army service members are on unaccompanied overseas tours, leaving dependents behind, or if your dependent is living with a former spouse. There are also adjustments for living overseas with your dependents. This is called an Overseas Housing Allowance (OHA). Your housing allowance provides a reasonable allotment of money that is added to your monthly check to cover the costs of living off base.
Credit Cards Not Included
Okay, there is a limit to what the Army will pay. They will not cover the cost of your cell phone, your Internet subscription, your season football tickets or pay off your credit card bills for you. The Army will, however, give you a good salary and enough benefits that you will be able to afford to get yourself out of debt as you provide for your family and serve your country.
