Disease and illness are everywhere. No one is immune to getting sick no matter how much they are in shape. This means even the soldiers in the United States Army are susceptible to getting sick. It is the job of the preventive medicine specialist to help make sure the amount of illness among soldiers is kept to an absolute minimum. You will help to keep the image of the indestructible Army soldier alive.

What You Will do

In order to help soldiers to stay healthy you will:
– Conduct Control Operations
– Conduct Survey Operations
– Conduct Preventive Medicine Inspections
– Assist with Preventive Medicine Procedure in the Lab
You may also be called upon to inspect water and other supplies for contamination and treatment.

Training for Your Career

A lot of your work will be conducted wherever the soldiers are. For this reason you will have to go through the basic training course every soldier goes through. You will also have to go through advanced training which will last about 15 weeks.

During your training you will learn how to analyze water for bacteria. You will study the diseases and parasites which affect humans. You will also learn inspection procedures for sanitation purposes.
